Editorial to 1st Edition

We are indebted to Jeff Carpenter who for  eight years has occupied the editorial chair  and ensured that, as regular as clockwork,  members of The Train Collectors Society  have received their copy of TCS News.  During this time we have seen the  magazine grow and improve and, with it, the membership of the TCS has trebled.  In taking over the chair I have a lot to live up to not least a challenge to treble the membership again. First, however, I should like to thank Jeff for all he has done for us over his time as editor and hope that he enjoys his break. If the magazine is to increase further the membership of the TCS, it must tackle new markets. It is, therefore, relaunched with a new name and with a wider range of subjects. Each issue will celebrate a different year from the modelling past. In this issue it is 1925 - the year that saw the launch of Model Railway News. New series include 'Shops I Remember" and 'What if...?'. The latter invites you to speculate on what might have happened if... We will also be looking at the auction world and reproducing some of the gems from the TCS Internet Chat Group. The biggest change will be the inclusion of "modern" collecting. Read on...
